explanation: Fukui prefecture occupies the north-western part of Chubu region facing Japanese Sea. Its surface is 4,191 km2 and the population 0.8 million. The prefectural office is at Fukui City. The northern plain is suitable for rice culture while in the southern part which has a rias type coast, fishing is prosperous. Fukui is traditionally a region of textile industry. Recently, many nuclear plants have been implemented in the southern region due to the vicinity to densely populated Kinki region.
