explanation: Located in the west of Aomori prefecture, Tsugaru hanto is surrounded in the west by Japan sea, the east by Mutsu bay and the north by Tsugaru strait. The eastern region is mountainous while the western region forms a rich Tsugaru plain. A legend says that tracked by enemies, Yoshitsune fled to Hokkaido from Tappizaki (flying dragon) cap at the extreme north with his horse transformed to a dragon. Now, you can reach Hokkaido through the world's longest Seikan tunnel.
